Wired Printing with DSLR and Snappic

If wireless printing doesn't work for your setup, you can print with a wired connection using the Snappic Print Server (Available on Windows & Mac) or 3rd party print solutions such as Airkonv, Boothjunkie, or Aircastpro and then some additional adapters as outlined in the diagrams below. The lightning diagram would be used for iPads and iPhones with a Lightning port and the USB-C diagram for all iPads with USB-C ports.

For USB Type C, you will need the following items:

  1. A USB-C hub with both a USB port and Ethernet connection. We have tested successfully with the Hyperdrive SLIM 8-in-1 USB-C Hub.

  2. A regular USB cable or ethernet if supported.

  3. A Windows or Mac computer to run the Snappic Print Server or 3rd party print server. You can download the print server from here.

  4. (Optional) If your computer doesn't have an Ethernet port, you will also need a USB to Ethernet adapter compatible with your computer, such as this one or this one.

First, connect the USB-C hub to the iOS device, and plug the camera and USB cable into the hub (or Ethernet if supported). Then plug the other end of the USB cable into the computer (or use a USB to Ethernet adapter if supported). From here, just set up the camera and printer as you normally would.

For the Lightning port, you will need the following items:

  1. Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter with a Lightning charging port

  2. USB hub. We have tested successfully with the Transcend USB 3.0 4-Port Hub TS-HUB3K.

  3. A regular USB cable or ethernet if supported.

  4. A Windows or Mac computer to run the Snappic Print Server or 3rd party print server. You can download the print server from here.

  5. (Optional) If your computer doesn't have an Ethernet port, you will also need a USB to Ethernet adapter compatible with your computer, such as this one or this one.

First, connect the Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter to the iOS device, and plug in the Transcend USB 3.0 4-Port Hub TS-HUB3K and a Charging cable from the Trnscent power port (only a single port has charging capabilities), Then plug in the camera to the USB Micro B port, (this will be the only port that will work for the DSLR data transfer). Then plug the other end of the USB cable into the computer (or use a USB to Ethernet adapter if needed). From here, just set up the camera and printer as you normally would.

The iOS device will now use the wired USB/Ethernet connection to send the prints to the Snappic Print Server (or 3rd party print server) to print. If your device has a Wi-Fi connection with an active Internet connection, the device will still send the images to Snappic and your micro-site gallery using the Wi-Fi internet, while prints will be sent over the wired connection.

Note: iPad prefers the WiFi connection for printing, It is recommended to have the Laptop WiFi off in this case
