Snappic offers three fantastic options to enhance your Photo, GIF, and Burst experience: traditional green screen, Offline BG background removal, and Online BG background removal

Click here to learn the pros and cons of our background removal types.

Table Of Contents:

Enable Green Screen

Enable the "Green screen" option, which is located under your event's "Features" tab.

Choose your BG Removal Type

Under the "Green screen" section, you can choose between three background removal types: Chroma Key, Offline BG, and Online BG.

Chroma Key

Chroma Key requires a physical green screen backdrop. You can adjust the following Chroma Key filter settings directly on the Snappic app under Processing:

  • Colour

The colour slider can select the colour of the background you will use for the "green screen" setup. For example, if you have a blue physical background/backdrop, you can use this option by moving the slider to blue.

Please ensure your backdrop colour matches the colour chosen on the slider.

  • Threshold

The threshold slider controls how similar pixels need to be to the selected colour that will be replaced.

  • Smoothing

The smoothing slider controls how gradually similar colours are replaced to smooth the edges between the background and foreground.

You can use 'Threshold & Smoothing' to adjust the sensitivity of the green screen effect. For example, if your green screen effect is not looking crisp (perhaps too much colour or not enough is being replaced), you would need to adjust these sliders to improve the image.

Offline Background Removal (Offline BG)

Offline Background Removal requires no physical green screen and works with any background. It will remove the background within the app locally.

To access the Offline Background Removal Processing settings within the app, start the event on the Snappic app and click the "Adjust Camera Settings" screen. Then, click on the "Processing" tab.

You will then adjust the below Filter Settings:

  • Smoothing

    • If a border (usually a white border) surrounds the subject after removing the background, try increasing the smoothing.

    • If the smoothing value is too high, it can also start cutting off some foreground parts. You may have to experiment to find the right balance for your setup and environment, but you can see the difference this setting makes directly in the live preview as you change it.

The smoothing slider controls how much smoothing is applied to the edges of the detected foreground.

Online Background Removal (Onine BG)

Online Background Removal requires no physical green screen but a stable internet connection and BG credits.

Once you select Online BG, you will see three additional settings pop-up:

  • Allow Retry on Failure: Enabling this setting will allow your guests to retry their BG removal if it fails (BG removal could fail if there are connection issues).

  • Allow Skipping Process on Failure: Enabling this setting will allow your guests to skip the BG removal process if it fails.

  • AI Upload Requires Approval: Enabling this setting will allow the guest to approve their image before proceeding.

Once you are happy with your settings, upload your green screen background images/animations and click "Save changes."

To access the Online Background Removal settings within the app, start the event on the Snappic app and click the "Adjust Camera Settings" screen. Then, click on the "Processing" tab.

You will then adjust the below Upload Settings:

  • Maximum Upload Concurrency

    • This controls how many images can be uploaded at the same time. Higher options mean more images can be uploaded at a time. The more images processed at a time, the faster they will upload, but it can overload a slow network if it is uploading too many at a time.

  • Image Upload Compression

    • This controls how much JPEG compression is applied to the images when uploading. Higher compression means the images will upload faster, but the quality will drop.

Selecting Greenscreen Backgrounds For Templates

You can apply BG removal to specific templates or disable Online BG removal by navigating to the particular template, clicking the "Green Screen" button, deselecting all backgrounds or unchecking a specific background image.

By default, Burst Templates are disabled when using Online BG Removal.

Top Up Online Background Removal Credits

Navigate the "Account" tab and click on Top Up.

Click the dropdown button for BG Removal Credits and select the amount of credits you want to purchase.

Each background removal uses 1 credit, so if you have a one-photo template, it will cost 1 BG removal credit, and if you have a three-photo GIF, it will cost 3 BG removal credits.

Please note:

  • To test background removal, please follow the link to remove. bg

  • If you would like to test within the Snappic app, please get in touch with the support team, and we will add 20 BG Removal credits (one time only)
