The App Experience settings in Snappic will allow you to control how your event looks and feels directly on the iPad photo booth. From first impressions with attract screens to the visual flow through the photo booth and into the sharing station, these tools let you showcase your brand and create a seamless guest experience. This article will walk you through how to configure visual elements like background screens, overlays, and idle messages to ensure your event runs with a professional, branded look from start to finish.

Table of Contents

Important Notes

  • The App Experience section lets you personalize visual elements of your event, but it doesn’t allow full UI changes (e.g. button shapes or survey layout).

  • You can’t adjust workflow order or button sizes via the App Experience settings.

  • Sharing Station Overlay darkness opacity can't be changed at this time

  • Standby screen can't be branded

  • App Experience settings apply only to the photo booth iPad and not the Sharing Station

  • Uploaded videos must be under 20MB; PNG files must be under 5MB

Attract Screen

Customize what guests see before interacting with the booth. The attract screen is a full-screen image or video that appears before the guest sees any experience buttons. Guests must tap the screen to proceed to the experience options. This is ideal for events where you want to grab attention, present branding, or deliver a message before interaction begins. If you're simply looking to set a visual background that appears behind the experience selection, you should use the settings under the "Photo Booth" tab instead.

  • Displays before the experience options.

  • Can be a static image or video.

  • Great for branding at busy events.

  1. Attract Screen Library – Choose a predesigned visual from Snappic's themed options.

  2. View recommended sizes for iPad screens – Ensure your uploads are properly sized.

  3. Remove the current attract screen – Clears the current screen to set a new one.

  4. Upload Animated Background – Upload a video (MP4, max 20MB) as your attract screen.

  5. Upload Still Background – Upload a static image (PNG, max 5MB) for attract screen.

  6. Upload a Master Overlay – Add a transparent overlay for branding (e.g. logos).

Photo Booth

The Photo Booth section is where most of the App Experience changes can be made. This includes adding your background image when guests select their experience, adding custom buttons, selecting your custom preview images, and much more!

  1. Use the Attract Screen as a Photobooth Background – Apply your attract screen design behind the booth UI.

  2. Select from the Background Library – Choose from preloaded background themes.

  3. Upload custom experience buttons – Customize experience icons (Guide).

  4. View recommended media sizes – See optimal specs for background uploads.

  5. Reset or remove the background – Clear current background or reset to default.

  6. Upload Animated Background – Add a looping video background (MP4, max 20MB).

  7. Upload Still Background – Use a static image (PNG, max 5MB) behind the camera UI.

  8. Upload a Master Overlay – Add transparent overlays for branding.

  9. Assign Custom Template Preview Images – Show previews of templates (Guide).

  10. Hide elements – Remove specific UI features like the retake or exit button.

Sharing Station

Set the visuals shown while guests review and share their session results. This screen appears after the guest has completed their photo or video session. It’s where they can preview their media and use options such as sharing via email, SMS, Email, QR code, or AirDrop. Customizing this area helps extend branding and creates a polished hand-off at the end of the booth experience. This screen setup is specific to the Sharing Station, which is a separate device from the iPad used for the main photo booth experience. The photo booth itself uses the Attract Screen and Photo Booth customization tabs for its visual setup.

  1. Select from the Attract Screen Library – Choose from predesigned backgrounds.

  2. View recommended media dimensions – Ensure visuals are properly sized.

  3. Reset Background – Revert to default or clear current background.

  4. Upload Animated Background – Add a looping video background (MP4, max 20MB).

  5. Upload Still Background – Use a PNG (max 5MB) as a background image.

  6. Upload a Master Overlay – Add a transparent overlay to align branding.

Standby Screen

Set messaging that appears when the app is idle. The standby screen activates after a period of inactivity and is useful for keeping the iPad from appearing unresponsive between sessions. While it supports displaying a custom message, it cannot be visually branded at this time. The background remains solid black with white text only.

To learn more about this option, check out this article

  • Create custom messages – Set your own text message for idle mode.

  • Allow custom messages from the device – Let on-site staff update messages from the iPad.

  • Show Standby Before Event Starts – Display a message before the event officially begins.
